BUILDING WALLS BREAKING WALLS
Construction of dry stone walls in intercultural dialogue
Building Walls Breaking Walls is an international and intercultural encounter project by the Solothurn association Naturkultur. Young adults from Ireland and Northern Ireland,
Israel and Palestine and from Switzerland spend a week together in the mountains. Together they rehabilitate decayed dry stone walls and overcome the walls between their cultures in discussions and workshops.
What becomes possible when, in the seclusion of the Swiss mountains, people meet who rarely meet in their home countries? What skills and insights do they gain?
In the book, it is mainly the young adults themselves who have their say. They disclose their experiences and tell how working with the stones affects them. The built dry stone walls remain as a strong testimony of their collaboration over the centuries.
